Busy, busy....

Life at la petite presse is hectic at the moment, hence a lack of time to either blog or even keep up with the reading of my favourite blogs!

Tim and I are both really busy at work. For me it’s exam time, report time, visit time and generally a time where we try to fit ‘a quart into a pint pot’. There are also the external pressures of a possible OFSTED visit early in the next school year and an inspection in June for the award of Advanced Dyslexia Friendly status. Tim is also preparing for a work related trip to the US next week. Our internet connection has also nearly ground to a halt. Orange, in their usual customer friendly premium rate call way, are like chocolate teapots!

However the main thing keeping us busy are the preparations for the return of the prodigal son from his year studying in Colorado.

I’ve yet to kill the fatted calf, but we have completely redecorated and carpeted  upstairs and nearly finished installing Tom’s ‘junk’ in his new bedroom. In hindsight it was a mammoth task to empty the whole of the upstairs so that the carpet could be fitted, and an even more mammoth task to put it all back together again!!

Tim will meet up with Tom at Heathrow as they both return from the US on the same day, but to different terminals on different flights, Tom from Denver and Tim from Chicago. If all goes to plan it will be wonderful - and a miracle!

Meanwhile, a photograph taken from my bedroom window just before I set out for work this morning.

A brief moment of peace in a busy, busy day …

  1. What a shame the Denver flight couldn't have required a pit stop in Chicago and they could both have flown home together...hope the meet up in Heathrow works and the rest of the plans for prodigal's homecoming go well. The view from your window is lovely...what a great start to the day.

  3. Janice,

Tom will in Chicago as part of a big road trip he is doing with friends a couple of days before his return to the UK. He is then flying back to Denver to day his final goodbye (for now) to Boulder and then home! I don't think his original BA ticket could have been changed to accommodate a different airport. They charged £100 to change the day!

I can't wait to have him home, but he'd better not mess up my newly tidy home ...

  4. Mine haven't yet flown the nest but I can imagine how exciting it will be to have Tom back after such an extended period - and whilst they can't travel together from the States, it will feel wonderful to meet up at Heathrow.
I suspect you won't mind TOO much when he arrives - and dumps his accumulated mess of the past year....you won't, I'm sure you won't (cos he will!)

  5. Hi Annie,
You're right it will be fantastic to have him home again. It will only be a month or so because he then heads off to Japan to teach English at a children's camp - I suspect the fact that he has a Japanese girlfriend influenced his choice of venue!

  6. Good luck with your busy week and enjoy the returning home of the men. I imagine you will be doing some cooking of favorite meals before your son heads off again. Maybe a trip to Japan for you this summer then? Actually it is wonderful to hear of your sons travels and what great experiences he is having.

    1. Hi,
      Thanks.

Tom has had such a wonderful time studying in Boulder and had met some wonderful friends from the US and the world over. He has been made welcome by everyone he's met in the States and Colorado was a great area of the country.

In fact we have three of his friends coming to stay in a couple of weeks. I fear they will find our little village very tame!

  7. Enjoy the return of your son and I hope you are already planning a trip to Japan to visit while he is there. The real world seems to be keeping many of us bloggers busy at the moment, but this is good, plenty of material to post about if we find the time. :)
